Autobiography of a Face

I chose to start reading the book Autobiography of a Face by Lucy Grealy because it contains a lot of sociology in it which I find to be very fascinating. The fact that the girl in this book has to deal emotionally and socially about her face is a big deal. I am very intrigued to read about how she deals with this weight and how the book will end. It is very sad that she really had no childhood because her life was centered around her face.

The cover of the book is a black and white photo of a young girl whose face is covered up by a scarf. I believe that the black and white stands for how her life was so blunt and colorless because she didn't really have a life full of fun and color. I know the scarf is covering her face because it is distorted but also because I believe she is ashamed of it which is really difficult to deal with because your face is supposed to represent you and who you are. The fact that her face is always changing is hard to deal with because she'll always feel unrecognizable and never really know who she is. The young girl in this photo is the girl in her childhood because this is when the book takes place and when all the mayhem begins.
